The newly-organized Stafford Elementary Student Council members were introduced Monday evening at the monthly meeting of the Italy School Board of Trustees.

As Student Council president, I want to welcome everyone to an exciting year of fun. As this is the first year for Stafford Elementary Student Council, we are looking forward to accomplishing many things.

Sidney Scott Reeves, age 76, of Italy, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

The Italy ISD School Board will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 19, 2012. Meeting time is slated for 7:00pm and will be held in the Italy High School band hall at 300 S. College Street.

They did it! The Gladiators win the 2012 district championship outright after defeating Kerens 40-27 to sweep the district. Playoffs here we come!!

On November 10, 2010, the Italy High School FCCLA club hosted a Fall Festival benefiting the North Texas Food Bank, which distributes food throughout our community. The group collected $188.65 in change. Just 14 cents will buy a pound of food for hungry families.

Resembling an arcade game about to tilt, the Italy JH Gladiators outlasted the Kerens Bobcats who simply ran out of quarters.

On Friday, November 9, Stafford Elementary and Italy High School combined talents to honor our local Veterans. Even the youngest of the group participated in the honors.

The City of Italy is still seeking donations and volunteers for its Fifth Annual Christmas Festival and Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1, according to Mayor Frank Jackson. He made the announcement at the city council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening in council chambers.

Italy FFA is currently having their fruit sales campaign. This is an annual fundraiser for the FFA program that provides a quality product year after year. Please contact Mr. Godwin or any FFA student if you would like to order some of the delicious fruit that our local club has to offer.

On Saturday, November 17, Hobbs Feed, located next door to Mansell’s Grocery on the corner of Main St. and Hwy 77, will honor their customers with their 4th Annual Appreciation Day.

Italy Elementary and Italy High School CBI students recently participated in the Special Olympics Bowling tournament held at USA Bowl in Dallas. According to Mrs. Young (High School CBI teacher) and Mrs. Cox (Stafford Elementary CBI teacher) the students were excited and ready to bowl and I would say they were right on target by all the ribbons and medals they brought home.

The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 12, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers located in the Italy Municipal Building at 105 West Main Street, Italy, Texas 76651. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm.

On November 19th, 2012 the Italy High School seniors will be participating in ASVAB Testing. It will be approximately 150 minutes and will begin at 8:00.

The IYAA A-team will be representing Italy in the inaugural 2012 NEH Superbowl being hosted by Italy at Willis Field on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

The City of Italy’s Planning & Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Meeting time is slated for 5:00pm in the Italy Municipal Building Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.

Fans get a home game look at the 2012-13 Lady Gladiator Basketball team and were impressed with the high level of play and winning attitudes.

Come one, come all to the Fall Festival on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at Italy High School, sponsored by the Italy High School FCCLA benefiting the North Central Texas Food Bank.

The Italy ISD’s high school and elementary campuses will honor the military at a Veterans Day program planned for Friday, November 9, 2012. The ceremony will be held in the old Italy High School Gymnasium and is scheduled for 1:00pm. All veterans along with the entire community is welcome to attend.

The Gladiators defeat the Gateway Gators to end their final home game on a winning note as senior band and color guard members, student-athletes and 2012 Homecoming King, Blake Vega, are honored during Senior Night at Willis Field.

Gladiator head football coach Hank Hollywood has submitted game and gate information for this weeks games against Kerens.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Friday, November 9, 2012. The meeting time is slated as 4:30pm. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Italy High School band hall.

Filming for an Italian based fashion design company using the City of Italy as its backdrop will wrap up production on Wednesday.

If you have ventured into Waxahachie on Saturday mornings, you might have come across the Farmers Market two blocks away from the courthouse (410 S. Rogers Street). Vendors from Ellis County offer fruits and vegetables, quilts, handmade crafts, jewelry, fresh baked bread, spices, photos, knives/swords and jewelry. In other words, a great assortment of holiday gift items.

Italy High School will host a fan bus for the Kerens game Friday. The bus is open to all members of the community.

Friends of Heath Sims will host an open house Sunday, Nov. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Waxahachie.

There were only two birthdays at Trinity Mission for the month of October but that didn’t stop anyone from having lots of fun. The celebration was full of fun, ice cream and cake! Jack Guthrie and Virginia Roderick were the birthday folks this month.

Downtown Italy was the place to be on Halloween as huge crowds went trick-or-treating on main street receiving candy from local businesses.

Italy Baseball Chili Cook-Off on Friday, November 2, inside the Italy High School cafeteria to raise funds for the team.

Halloween, what a fun time everyone has for this occasion. Although I don’t know who has more fun than the folks at Trinity Mission. Each year they share their Halloween spirit with the Stafford Elementary students by putting on a fall festival complete with games, candy and lots of fun.

This year at Stafford Elementary the students were treated to “Trunk or Treat” coordinated by the Stafford Elementary PTO. The teachers, staff and lots of parents handed out lots of candy from the trunks of their cars and trucks. The back parking lot was filled with students and creatively decorated vehicles. They went all out!

When you walked down the hall towards Mrs. Aguado’s fourth grade class all you could see were carved pumpkins everywhere! There were spiders, snowmen, ghosts, mummies just all kinds of jack-o’-lanterns.

Lady Gladiator volleyball seniors Morgan Cockerham, Paola Mata and Alyssa Richards were honored before final home game against Covington.

Cayuga was picked to win but the Gladiators picked a fight, upsetting the Wildcats 20-16.

James and Joyce Hobbs have lived in Italy for three years and were delighted when their yard was chosen as “Yard of the Month.” It is very easy to see why. They have beautiful pumpkins, flowers and scare crows to bring in the fall season.
