Saturday, May 7, 2011 there will be an art show at the Ellis County Art Museum honoring the memory of Shelley Nance. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship Fund. The show will run from 6pm-8pm.
Lieutenant Greg Richards, Bryan Fire Department 5, is remembered during a hometown visitation in Italy after losing his life in the line-of-duty on February 15.
On Saturday, March 2, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church hosted its Entrance Ceremony. The church has opened its new doors and sanctuary and is ready for the business at hand. In the Bible, Mt. Gilead was the region east of the Jordan River and took a prominent place in the history of the Bible. (Gen. 31:25) It was considered a rugged mountain.
The Italy Economic Development Corporation meeting ended in a heated discussion Monday evening between Mark Stiles, president, and Tom Little regarding signage at the city’s new pavilion. The discussion ended with Little tendering his resignation from the IEDC.
The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band will be participating in the annual UIL contest to be held at Groesbeck Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Regiment Band should perform at 2:30 p.m.
Italy High School and Italy Junior High School will have Cheer and Mascot Tryouts on Saturday, April 6th in the Italy High School Dome. All 6th-11th grade girls and boys are welcome to tryout.

The Italy School Board of Trustees concluded a four-hour meeting Monday evening by unanimously extending the contracts of Lee Joffre, high school principal, and Hank Hollywood, athletic director, for the 2014-2015 school year.
During the week of March 4, 2013 some Italy High School students will take the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test or benchmark curriculum assessments. It is necessary to temporarily change the daily schedule in order to accommodate the testing needs. Testing information and schedule changes are reflected below.
Louis “Lou” Eugene Martina, age 84, of Italy passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 in the company of family and friends. He was born June 10, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Dorothy C. and Louis C. Martina. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1949 to 1952. Lou worked for the City of Italy for 10 years and also helped keep the city beautiful by picking up trash.
Several students from Milford ISD participated in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Ag Mechanics Show this past weekend. They really out did themselves bringing home lots of blue ribbons.
The Italy community is invited to come and spend time with the family of the late Greg Pickard during a visitation at the Italy Boze Community Center on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00pm. Greg, son of Bob and Carla Pickard of Italy, recently lost his life in the line of duty with the Bryan Fire Department.

The Lady Gladiators will head to Corsicana High School to play 6 games in three days in CHS’s annual Softball Classic. After twelve years of service, Lou Martina retires from the City of Italy. I know everyone know who he is! Lou could be seen every morning around 5:30 AM in his red pick up truck in downtown Italy sweeping streets and picking up trash. He loved his job and took it very seriously but always had a smile for those passing by.
On January 25, Senior Meagan Hooker had the unique privilege of speaking for former First Lady, Mrs. Laura Bush, at the Taking Care of Texas Reception in San Antonio. Mrs. Bush chose Meagan to speak about her personal experiences with youth education programs that focus on the subjects of wildlife, natural resources, and conservation because of her continued involvement and dedication to these programs.

San Antonio –A calf scramble was held Saturday, February 16 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. 4-H and FFA youth competed for $800 certificates to purchase breeding animals to exhibit in the 2014 San Antonio Junior Livestock Show. Twelve certificates were awarded that day to those who caught a calf!
