Italy High School NHS/NJHS collecting donations for West

The Italy High School NHS and Junior High School NJHS will be hosting a fundraiser for the city of West, Texas. Over the course of 4 weeks they will be collecting monetary donations of any size, including change. The NHS/NJHS members will be bringing donation buckets to the elementary school and local businesses in order to bring our whole community together to help the residents of West.

Italy First Baptist Church coordinating efforts to help West’s displaced elderly

There are 15 residents of the nursing home in West that have been moved to Hillsboro and they need our help. They are in need of clothes and shoes. They need things such as sleeping clothes, sweats, house shoes and any other types of clothing that would be warm and comforting to these people. You can drop off these items at First Baptist Church anytime before 7pm tonight at which time the items will then be taken to Hillsboro.

Highway 35 North is blocked due to diesel explosion and fire

Italy — Avoid traveling north on Highway 35 toward Waxahachie. A tractor trailer exploded and caught fire backing up traffic for several hours along Chambers Creek Bridge. The south side is running smoothly. The photos taken in this article were taking by Italy Neotribune just before 3:00 p.m. with cleanup crews just arriving to the scene.

Letter from the Publisher: Mayoral candidate “Meet and Greet” or Debate?

Normally at Neotribune we don’t get deeply involved in the City activities. But in this case we see a problem coming and would like to head it off before it happens. There has been a sign put up in the City Community Center for a Meet and Greet for the candidates for this evening, Monday April 15th. This sign has been posted by the present Mayor and listed as a Meet and Greet. The Mayor informed Mr. Hobbs that it was to be a Meet and Greet and made it sound like it was meant to be just exactly that.

Wow! Who would have thought our little town of Italy would have a Taco Bell! Well, we have one and to make it official, the ‘red ribbon’ was ceremoniously cut Friday afternoon by Dennis Durrett the franchise owner of Taco Bell.

Gladiator Baseball has schedule change due to SAT testing

Coach Ward wants to make everyone aware that the double header planned for tomorrow has been reduced to one game with a start time of 1:00pm. Due to SAT testing, the Dawson squad will not be available but for one afternoon game. It will be gorgeous weather, so make plans to support our Gladiators tomorrow, Saturday, April 13 at 1:00pm when they take on the Dawson Bulldogs.

Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship Fund

Again this year, the Nance family is preparing for the Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship which will be awarded to a graduating Italy High School senior. The scholarship recipient has to be furthering their education after High School with a college degree studying in the field of art. Last year Heather Maynard was awarded $1000 toward her college education.

“We are Easter people!” said Pastor Bill Morgan from Family Fellowship Church. Committed people of Italy representing different churches came together Sunday to celebrate the Easter morning at sunrise—beautiful, moving and quite untraditional.

Still unbeaten in district, Lady Gladiators sweep Grand Prairie Advantage 13-0

Italy — The Lady Gladiators defeated Grand Prairie Advantage 22-0 earlier in district play and coasted to a victory in the rematch with Italy winning again, 13-0. A two run double by Tara Wallis, an RBI double by Alyssa Richards who knocked in 3 runs and scored once, a 2 RBI double by Paige Westbrook and an RBI triple by Kelsey Nelson separated Italy who led early and continued building on their lead throughout. Along with the RBI, Nelson crossed home plate 3 times for Italy’s cause.

Hamilton comes thru with a walk off RBI to help Italy defeat Frost 3-2

Italy — The Italy Gladiator baseball boys get a stellar performance form senior pitcher Caden Jacinto who led his club to a vital district win over the Frost Polar Bears. Jacinto went the entire game on the mound recording 11 strikeouts while freshman catcher Ryan Connor came through with a solid effort for head coach Josh Ward and assistant coach Brian Coffman.
