Twice the Eggs, Twice the Fun

As in previous Easter egg hunts, fun was abounding on Saturday morning. Children from Italy and beyond grabbed their baskets or buckets and enjoyed hunting eggs at two different places. Thrilled with the thoughts of eggs filled with surprises, the kids checked high and low to fill up their basket. The first egg hunt was at the Dunlap Library and afterwards, the children moved to the Upchurch Ball Fields for the Mayor’s fulfilled gathering.

Public meeting noticed posted

The City of Italy has posted a notice for a public meeting to be held Monday, April 8, 2013. The purpose of the meeting will be to consider and review the Curfew Ordinance’s effects on the community and on the problems the Curfew Ordinance was intended to remedy. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building, located at 105 W. Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm.

Win a POA—Texas 4-H Essay Contest

Texas Pony of Americas Club is pleased announce the 2013 Win A POA 4-H Essay Contest. This is a statewide 4-H contest open to registered Texas 4-H club members between the ages of 9 (or entered in the third grade) and 16 as of August 31. The purpose of this contest is to acquaint 4-H members with the Pony of the Americas breed, horse ownership and care in general. The winner will receive a registered POA, halter and lead rope, a Junior Membership for a year in the Texas POA Club, and various other donated prizes.

Testing schedule released for IHS/IJHS campus

During the week of April 1, 2013 some Italy High School and Italy Junior High School students will take STAAR or EOC tests. It is necessary to temporarily change the daily schedule in order to accommodate the testing needs. Testing information and schedule changes are reflected below.

Avalon ISD has their 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Avalon ISD kick started the Easter Season off by being the first Easter Egg Hunt this year. Even though Monday evening was cold it did not stop anyone from coming out to hunt eggs. It was a pretty amazing sight when you looked over the school yard and saw over 4,000 eggs and masses of candy. The look of surprise and happiness in each face of the students gazing at all the eggs said it all.

Italy school board cancels 2013 election

The Italy School Board of Trustees officially canceled the 2013 school board election Monday night at their monthly meeting. Two incumbents did not sign up to run again – Curtis Riddle and Jon Mathers. Two people, Ida Overton and Sal Ramirez, did sign up to run and are unopposed in the election originally scheduled in May.

Walk For Wishes

Holly Bradley, IHS graduate and current Italy ISD employee, is taking part in the Make A Wish Foundation Walk on April 6, 2013 and asks the community for help with this cause.

Hobbs for mayor

James Hobbs has tossed his hat in the proverbial ring for mayor of Italy. Having his ‘feet wet’ by serving on the Italy City Council he is now ready for more.

Italy ISD One Act Play advances to district finals

Congratulations to Andrea Windham and her One Act Play-ers on their advancement in the district-zone competition yesterday in Richardson. Their production of All In Disguise won the entire cast and one crew member superlative awards. Their next level of competition (district finals) will be in Krum on Friday, March 22nd. Their performance will be at 1:00pm.

Obituary: Kurt Heilbronner, 1937 — 2013

Kurt Heilbronner, age 75, of Italy, passed away Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013 at his home. He was born November 3, 1937 in Glendale, California to Karl and Lillian (Curtis) Heilbronner. Kurt served in the U. S. Navy for 20 years as a flight mechanic. He retired from Pratt-Whitney after 20 years of service. After his retirement he went to work with his friend, Rick, restoring old WWI and WWII air crafts. Kurt married Ruth Rock on April 27, 2007 in Plano, TX.
