Movie Night at the George Scott Gym Saturday, December 21

The Italy High School and Junior High School cheerleaders are sponsoring a Christmas movie night at the old gym this Saturday, December 21st. Movies, chili dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate and a bounce house will all be a part of the fun that will begin at 5:30pm.

Christmas service cancelled

The Ministerial Alliance Christmas service that was scheduled for Sunday night, December 8, at Mt. Gilead has been cancelled due to icy roads and bad weather.

Annual Community Christmas Service planned this Sunday

The Italy Ministerial Alliance invites everyone to the annual Community Christmas service this coming Sunday night, December 8th. The service begins at 6:30 pm at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. There will be a Festival of Choirs from six of the area churches and Pastor Preston Dixon will bring the Christmas message.

Seeking talent for Italy’s Christmas Festival and Parade

We are interested in having all performing groups from Italy participate in the entertainment for the Italy Christmas Festival and Parade. We are looking for bands, singers, cheerleading groups, dance groups, MIME groups, choirs, and others who have a talent for and desire to entertain the community at our wonderful festival on December 7th.

IHS Class of 1968 reunion set

The Italy High School Class of 1968 will hold their 45th class reunion on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The members will meet at Italy High School at 4:00 p.m. to tour the facility. Getting reacquainted hour will begin at 5:30 at Rockett Ranch Cafe in Milford at 5:30 and meal to follow at 7:00. For more information contact Ranae Harrison at 972-875-6407.

The Rockett Ranch Café and Club in Milford held its first annual barbeque cook off last Saturday, Oct. 5. The turnout was less than expected. Speculation suggested the rain prediction could have been the reason or the 60% payout for prize money. It was decided next year would deliver an 80% payout and pray for better weather.

Community fun at Italy’s National Night Out

National Night Out downtown Italy at the Pavilion Tuesday night was quite the success! There were over 200 people there eating hotdogs, line dancing, visiting and just having a great time. Mayor Hobbs was even spotted dancing in the line dance!

Italy Police Department invites all to National Night Out

Image: The Italy Police Department invites the community to join them in celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the downtown Italy Pavilion from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Italy PD is also asking for donations from businesses, individuals and or organizations to be used as free giveaways.

The Italy Police Department would like to invite the community in participating in “National Night Out.” The Italy Police Department will host a family friendly event at the downtown Italy Pavilion. There will be face painting, bounce houses, music, free food, drawings and more! Ronald McDonald will be there too!

Barry Byers Appreciation Dinner Friday, September 27th

Save the date for the Barry Byers Appreciation Dinner on Friday, September 27th (a bye week for the Gladiators) at the famed Uptown Cafe in downtown Italy, Texas. Annual Milford Arts & Craft Fair planned

Music camps planned at Central Baptist Church, Italy

The Music Minister of Central Baptist Church has planned a Children’s and Youth Music Camp. Camps will last three days and will conclude with a presentation of what they learned. The camps are free! Register by calling (254) 723- 0840.

Is everybody ready for the big game on Saturday, July 6th? What game you may ask, well, Italy’s 2nd annual Guns vs Hoses softball game of course! The Italy Police Department will try to make it two in a row against the Italy Fire Department who are determined to tie the series. Remember, all the proceeds go to benefit the Italy Shop with a Cop program.

Avalon Homecoming Set for June 8, 2013

AVALON – June 8, 2013 is the date for Avalon’s Biennial Homecoming at the beautifully renovated J. P. Griffith Gymnasium located on Hemphill Street in Avalon. The event is sponsored by the Avalon Ex-Students Association.

Italy Ministerial Alliance hosts community feast

The holidays have arrived in Italy. The kick off was a community wide Thanksgiving feast held at the Italy High School dome. The whole city was invited to participate in a non-denominational church service, BBQ and all the fixins, activities for the children and fellowship.

5th annual Italy Christmas Festival planning is underway

Mark your calendars! December 1, 2012 is the day that Italy will have a fun hometown event for everyone! The 5th annual Christmas Festival will have a few new twists this year. In addition to the event being centered around the soon to be completed Italy City Pavilion, the Italy Park board has added a Christmas dessert contest as well as a homemade tamale contest—both with cash prizes!

Formal winter banquet planned; will feature gospel entertainment

Fellowship 5 sends out a community wide invitation to all for their First Annual Formal Winter Banquet. The elegant evening of dining and entertainment will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm at the Red Oak Civic Center, 200 Lakeview Parkway in Red Oak.

Waxahachie Farmers Market

If you have ventured into Waxahachie on Saturday mornings, you might have come across the Farmers Market two blocks away from the courthouse (410 S. Rogers Street). Vendors from Ellis County offer fruits and vegetables, quilts, handmade crafts, jewelry, fresh baked bread, spices, photos, knives/swords and jewelry. In other words, a great assortment of holiday gift items.

Community Wide Thanksgiving BBQ planned

The Italy Ministerial Alliance is planning a community wide Thanksgiving Bar-b-que on Sunday, November 18th. The event will be held at the Italy High School Dome and will begin at 12:30. Come one, come all and join in this community fellowship event.

Junior High Halloween Dance planned

The Italy High School freshman class will be sponsoring a Halloween Dance for 6th through 8th grade students of Italy Junior High and Stafford Elementary. The dance will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 8:00pm to 11:00pm in the old gym at the Italy High School campus.

It’s Tour Time Again!!

Tour d’Italia that is.  Over 900 cyclist are expected to converge on our town on Saturday, June 16th to not only participate in this annual tradition but also to help raise money.  Proceeds from this ride will fund a scholarship for Italy High School as well as support the North Texas Food Bank, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and other charitable organizations. 

2012 Hope for Batten Cure: Run/Walk Event

On Saturday, May 12 the Batten Disease Support & Research Association is putting on a 5K run, 2 mile walk, and a 1K fun run event in order to raise funds for the ongoing research to find a cure for the Batten disease. This event will take place at the Reverchon Park located at 3505 Maple Avenue in Dallas and is in memory of Italy’s own Donovan Lusk and in honor of Eric and McKenna Lowden.

The Italy Ministerial Alliance would like to invite everyone to the Community Easter Sunrise Service. This year it will be held at the Italy Downtown Plaza on April 8th at 7:00 a.m.

Candy needed for Easter egg hunt

Italy Mayor Frank Jackson said the annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 7. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Upchurch Field for children throughout the city.

It was very, very cold the night of Dianne Jaynes fundraiser. But the citizens of the small community of Italy, Texas was not going to let a little bad weather bother them and as usual came out in full to support one of their own, Dianne Jaynes and her family.

Valentine’s Dance this Saturday

The junior class is hosting a Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 9:00 – 12:00 for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade students of Italy ISD.  The dance will be held in the George Scott Gym.  The cost is $3.00 per person.  Concession stand will be open. 

Dianne Jaynes Benefit Concert-Saturday, February 4th at Upchurch Ball Park-Italy

There will be a benefit concert for Dianne Jaynes this Saturday, February 4th.  Live music will be provided by the Justin Guthrie Band, Moonshine Band, David Harness with Jason Herrin, DJ TOO COOL and an appearance by Tres Medlock.  In conjunction with the concert there will be food, raffle items and auction items. The benefit will be held at the Upchurch Ball Fields at 200 Dilworth Street, Italy, from 5:00pm to midnight.

“Volunteers for Democracy Day”

During the 80th legislative session, SB 393 declared the second Tuesday in January as “Volunteers for Democracy Day” to recognize the tens of thousands of Texans “who make valuable contributions to the nation’s democratic system.”

Community-wide men’s fellowship chili dinner

The second annual Men and Boys Community Chili Dinner took place at the Cornerstone on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm. Several churches throughout the town were represented. Family Fellowship Church, First Baptist Church of Italy, and Central Baptist Church all had church members attend the dinner. Murray Wainscott was in charge of putting it together and he did a great job.

Central Baptist Church Prime timers meal schedule change

The Central Baptist Prime Timers meal will not be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at noon. The entree will be fried chicken. New Year’s Eve and nowhere to go

You might have a dilemma. Where will you go to ring in the new year? You could stay home or you could travel. There are many activities from which to choose for the beginning of 2012. The only problem you will have is deciding which way to drive.

Men’s Community Chili Supper

Tonight, December 28, 2011, Central Baptist Church of Italy will sponsor a Chili Supper. All men and boys of the community are invited to attend. The menu will feature Murray Wainscott’s famous chili along with Curtis Riddle’s delicious beans. There will be a guest speaker along with music and fellowship. Come join in on the fun tonight at 6:30pm at the Cornerstone Building of Central Baptist Church (205 E. Main Street, Italy).

Italy Hosts Christmas Parade and Festival

It may have been a little cold and wet on Saturday, but that did not stop the parade from barreling down Main Street of Italy Texas. There were elves, floats and even a special visit from a jolly old friend from the North Pole.
