A few members of the Class of 1960 will be at the George Scott Dinner and the football game for Homecoming on the 17th. Classmates will spend Friday night at the LaQuinta in Waxahachie and would enjoy visiting with friends on Friday or on Saturday morning at the LaQuinta. They will eat together Saturday noon and then return to their homes. If you are interested in visiting and/or eating with us on Saturday, just call for Margaret Epperson’s room at the LaQuinta.
Ticket vouchers must be purchased no later than 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14.
Six out of the eight cheerleaders for the Avalon Eagles received the honor as “All American” at cheerleading camp which entitles them to participate in a parade in Florida.
Palmer — When Italy Gladiators’ fans awoke Saturday morning, the sun was shining brighter, the grass was a bit greener and the old gold had returned some of its luster. After an 0-2 start to their season, the Italy Gladiators(1-2) get into the win column by handing the Palmer Bulldogs(1-2) their second loss of the season, 27-7 in Palmer’s own backyard.

The cafeteria was over flowing with grandparents, and grandchildren (students) at Stafford Elementary Friday early afternoon. Every year Grandparents came and celebrated their special day by visiting the school and eating lunch with all the students.

Bobby Lee Barnhart, age 63, of Italy, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He was born October 2, 1946 in Columbus, Indiana to Karrell and Angie Marie (Pedigo) Barnhart.
Debbie Knott loves living and working in Italy. She has lived here for about thirty years and wouldn’t live anywhere else. So it just makes sense that she would be the Citizen of the Month.
Pouring rains may have cancelled Thursday’s Junior Varsity and Junior High football games but that didn’t keep the Junior High team from getting in a few practice reps. IJH’s excited players will have to wait until next week to showcase their skills against Hubbard.

A high level of volleyball was displayed by the Italy Lady Gladiators on Friday. The ladies were hustling around the court, shifting formations on the fly and backing each other up with a new found vigor. When every lady on the floor has the same desire to win, positive things are likely to happen.

One hundred thirty two Italy Junior High and High School students of all faiths feasted on hot dogs, nachos and homemade desserts Friday night after the Gladiator football game. The members of Central Baptist Church were happy to host the group and have them come to the Cornerstone and enjoy themselves in a safe, Christian atmosphere.
With the cancellation of the football games Thursday night it gives an opportunity to hold a meeting without too much conflict. Please make plans to attend a meeting of the Gladiator Booster Club Thursday night September 9th at 6:30. There are several decisions that must be made in regards to our bank accounts, bylaws, as well as non-profit status regulations. We will also use this time to collect ad copy, etc., for the 2010 Gladiator Football Program.
Saturday, September 25th, from 4pm-7pm the Family Fellowship Church is having a fun event for children ages preschool thru 6th grade. There will be activities, entertainment and a meal served at 6:00pm. Admission will be two canned goods per person.

Due to the heavy rains brought on by hurricane Hermine the football games scheduled to be played at Willis Field on Thursday, September 9 have been cancelled.
Pigg Road has been closed due to high water in Precinct 2 and they have put up barricades near Old Reagor Springs Road. Also, there is a report of high water on Broadhead Road close to the creek.

The Italy Gladiators challenged another tough opponent in the Mart Panthers on Friday night. Head coach Craig Bales hopes the experience gained from playing strong teams before district will make the Gladiators that much stronger. Italy survived the Panther attack, but can Palmer survive the Gladiators?

As you walked into Trinity Mission Monday, August 30th around 6:00 PM the first thing you noticed was beautiful piano music was being played. The second thing was the most delicious aromas of barbecued ribs wafting throughout the halls. Trinity Mission was filled to the brim with citizens of Italy and family members of residents to celebrate with Marie Wood at her retirement party.

The Italy JV Gladiators battled back in the fourth quarter to give themselves a chance but the Mart JV Panthers finally put the game out of reach in the final minutes.
The 23rd Annual Meals-on-Wheels Golf Benefit, set for September 16, at Cleburne Golf Links, is ready for the big day! “Our field is now full!” said Ike Vera, Golf Benefit Chairperson. The Benefit was limited to the first 66 teams to register, and registrations were accepted until the field was full, on a first come first served basis.

Words are not enough to thank everyone for their help and support for the benefit fundraiser for me. When I was diagnosed with cancer, it was devastating. Then, when the treatments forced me to give up my employment, it was even more devastating. I appreciate everyone that helped organize the event, prepare the food, work during the benefit, our amazing DJ and those that came to support me. A big thanks to Dart Container and Chicken Express in Waxahachie for their donations. I also want to thank the Waxahachie Daily Light and Italy Neotribune for printing my story. I appreciate everyone’s prayers and ask that you continue to pray for my healing.

Italy’s select baseball team continues to round bases at Waco’s Doubl-R Fields, Riverbend Park in an effort to gain experience while competing against high caliber baseball teams.
Labor Day is just around the corner. In fact, Monday, September 6 is next week. The Italy Ministerial Alliance is announcing the local food pantry will still be open from 5:00-8:00 pm on the holiday.
Even though the weather has been hot and steamy it has not dampened the spirits or the smiles at Trinity Mission. Everyone was happy to celebrate the August birthdays.
“I am not very comfortable accepting accolades. I do what I do because I love helping other people and getting involved. I prescribe to the old African proverb that says it takes an entire village to raise a child. I was reared in Italy, I feel like I need to give back because this whole community helped in developing me,” said Elmerine when asked what she thought of being ‘Citizen of the Month’.
