With each team having a bye next week, the IYAA’s cheerleaders and players had much riding on their games against Mildred on Saturday. All three IYAA teams (A, B and C) played hard and after the final buzzer sounded, signaling the last Italy games of the regular season, two IYAA teams had definitely qualified for the playoffs while the third waits for their fate.
Even scarier than the first day of school was Halloween dress-up day this past Friday at both Italy High School and Stafford Elementary. Teachers as well as students participated in the gory fun.
Ricardo Hernandez of Ennis was the picture of both generosity and humility on Monday evening when he approached the Commissioners’ Court with an unusual request: he wanted to donate some money to the county in order to help others. Hernandez spoke in Spanish, with his daughter to translate.
Italy ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment. Children from birth to age three with other disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services.

The Italy Junior High Gladiators football team traveled to Leon to take on the Cougars this past Thursday. Although Italy turned in several exciting plays, the day belonged to the Cougars who were charged with defending their home turf.
The Kopperl Lady Eagles and the Kerens Lady Bobcats will battle for the 12A-13A Bi-District title at the Italy High School Coliseum on Monday, November 1, 2010. Game time is 7:00pm. Admission prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
On November 7, the Lady Mustangs will host an open tryout for girls softball teams 10 & under and 12 & under and they are inviting dedicated young ladies from the Italy, Avalon, Milford areas.

Darla Gardner is the Director of Therapy at Trinity Mission. She has been at Trinity Mission for about eight months, but she did not come alone. She brought Lisa Marie, the cutest little chihauhua you ever saw. She sports designer fashions and is a dog with a mission.

As the playoff picture comes into focus, the IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) Gladiators ventured to Hubbard, home of the Jaguars, Saturday with the hopes of keeping pace with the teams in their divisions.
In keeping with fire safety week, students at Stafford Elementary were also learning how to evacuate a bus in dangerous situations last week. School bus drivers had their busses lined up and were ready to share their important tips on how to evacuate the bus in an emergency.

It is strange how my mind works sometimes. I can be rocking along and a memory come to mind for no apparent reason. Sometimes something specific will cause one to surface. I have different reactions to memories. I am very fortunate to have been allowed to build such a vast bank of memories from the people that God has blessed me with. Avalon High School volleyball is currently 8-0 in district (overall 15-11) and has already clinched the District title. Avalon has 2 district games left to play until the playoffs.
City of Italy’s Mayor Frank Jackson once again proclaims October 11, “IYAA Day,” within the City of Italy. Members of the IYAA family (Italy Youth Athletic Association) joined Mayor Jackson, council members Greg Richards, Dennis Perkins and Bruce Utley and city employees for cake, cookies and punch inside the council chambers at Italy City Hall to celebrate the proclamation.
Our little city of Italy is truly a very pretty place to live. Everything is kept clean and looking good. But what everyone probably does not know is that a big part of the reason for our city being so clean and pretty is Lou Martina.
After countless hours of practices and a dozen Friday night performances, the Italy Gladiator Regiment Band proudly marched into the UIL Regional competition at LaVega High School in Waco on Wednesday afternoon. Once again the band did Italy proud by getting a first division rating.
The youth at Central Baptist Church are doing an on-going fundraiser. We will be collecting aluminum cans (vegetable or soda) to turn in for cash to use for youth events, fifth quarters, camps, and whatever else the youth may need. Johnny Roy Hooks entered this life on March 4, 1946 to the parents of Arthur Lee and Della Mae Hooks in Palestine. Johnny received his education in Italy and graduated from Stafford High School. He started his career in the United States Air Force where he served four years as a Military Police Officer. He then met and married Dorothy Jean Watkins and to this union one child was born, Jennifer.

The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band will travel to Pirate Stadium at LaVega High School in Waco, Texas to compete in the UIL Region 8 Class A/AA marching contest on Wednesday, October 20th.
The Buffalo Bison (5-3,1-1) bulled their way over the Italy Gladiators (4-3,1-1) by a score of 41-21 in week two of the of the 2A-2 Region II District 11 race. The loss puts the Italy in a four-way tie for second place with Buffalo, Centerville and Leon who the Gladiators take on this Friday in Italy.
The JV football game scheduled for Thursday, October 21 has been cancelled due to Leon High School not having a JV team. The Italy Gladiator Junior High football game will be played as scheduled in Leon at 6:00pm.
Friday morning at 8:45 am the Stafford Elementary cafeteria was filled with smiling students, parents and teachers. It was the first six weeks award assembly now known as P.A.W.S. (Positive Academics of Winning Students). And winners they are.
Italy — With all the fanfare of a high school football game, the IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) wrapped up their final home games of the 2010 football season while entertaining fans throughout the day. The Italy chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is sponsoring an event on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at the Italy HS football field. Students from Italy HS will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across America to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the 7th Annual National Fields of Faith event. This rapidly growing, interdenominational outreach, event will be held at more than 400 locations throughout the nation on this same date.
The Italy Junior High and JV Gladiators split wins with the Blooming Grove Lions this past Thursday. Both Italy teams played extremely well and fans are loving every exciting minute.
Dwain Douglas Hobbs was born on March 22, 1935 in Valley View, Texas to the late Weldon and Leta Hobbs. On October 9, 2010 he went to be with the lord.
Last Sunday, Ashley Wendler’s house exploded with everything she owns inside. Ashley and her two children Alxus and Chase were not in the house so fortunately no one was hurt. But everything they own is gone.
