A single tear

I know one of the ways I can tell that God loves me is by the people He has placed in my life. I have been blessed to have loved and been loved by so many quality people. I think part of it is because I was born and raised in Italy. We have truly good people here that care about each other and you see it more during adversity than you do at any other time.

Letter to the Editor: County Budget

First I want to say that these thoughts have no political undertone. I am not addressing the Commissioners Court in any way. I am sure there are plenty of justified complaints with the way the county spends our money. The one thing I will say is that employee expense ranks one of the highest expenses on any budget and is always the first to be examine and reduced. That is true in any company or should be true with government.

Italy’s Junior High Lady Gladiators, 7th and 8th grade, battled the Grandview Lady Zebras on Monday, September 13 to get their season started. Coaches Heather Richters and Tina Richards were as excited as the teams were as the butterflies were definitely fluttering before the first whistle.

Tradition Restored

Everyone that knows me at all knows that tradition is very important to me, especially when it comes to Italy High School. I guess “once a cheerleader always a cheerleader” does apply to me. I love my Gladiators and Lady Gladiators and love Italy tradition.

If you haven’t already, hopefully you will get a chance to see the flags adorning our downtown today. In honor of homecoming and striving for a strengthening of community spirit for our Italy Gladiators (past and present), several business men of the community hung over 30 flags on the sidewalk awning poles of downtown Italy last evening…and it looks awesome!!!

Image: B-Wil not stop — Bobby “B-Wil” Wilson(64) will be too much for the Jaguars to slow down.

The intensity has definitely picked up on the Gladiators’ side of the ball this week as Italy prepares to do Homecoming battle against the Hubbard Jaguars. Gladiator practices are no place for the weak. Former players returning for the Friday night festivities would cringe at some of the hits being dished out in preparation for the game.

Before the game the surviving five players from the 1940 Gladiators will be honored – 70 years have passed but their legacy lives on.
