A reminder that each woman needs to self-examine or take a trip to the doctor for a yearly checkup. “Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women. As you enter Italy Daycare Center you are greeted by some of the most amazing painted pumpkins. The teachers all painted a pumpkin to get prepared for Halloween. But, they are not the only ones with talent for painting pumpkins! The three- and four-year-old classes were having a great time painting their pumpkins for Halloween.
Milly will be two years old on October 29. She is a beautiful female Boxer. Her owner could not care for her any longer. She is in need of a loving, permanent home. She is a sweet dog, very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she is your number one supporter. She is nervous around men but she is fine with kids and other pets.

The Italy City Council, the School Board of Trustees, Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Italy Fire District held a joint meeting Monday evening, Oct. 6. Mark Stiles, president of the EDC, said all the entities in the community needed to work together to better the community. He said the city and school were lucky to have those on the council and school board. “You are doing a job nobody else wanted,” he pointed out.

Jan Libal was born in Carthage, Texas and was raised in Louisiana, right on the bank of Cado Lake in a little town named Moorings Port. The town was named after a river boat captain named Mooring. Her father moved his family to Texas when he was transferred by his company.

During the halftime festivities of this year’s Powder Puff game at Willis Field Thursday night, Dirty Delilah was crowned Powder Puff Princess. She was presented a feathered tiara, a sash and a scrawny silk flower for her honors.
It was a disappointing loss for the 2009 Seniors in this year’s Powder Puff game. The real winner was the National Honor Society because of the money raised at the game.

The Lady Gladiators were on fire Tuesday night as they hosted the Lady Eagles in volleyball. Italy stepped up and won 3 sets — another mark in the win column. The final scores were 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.
When you are driving down highway I-35 in Italy, Texas, don’t be afraid! Don’t let your imagination run wild. You really do see something. There really is something there, but nothing that will hurt you. The huge bright orange ball you see is just the Monolithic Pumpkin, welcoming in the fall season.
The three teams of IYAA lined up once again and fought hard, this time against the Scurry Wildcats on Saturday. Italy “C” team, consisting of K, 1st and 2nd graders, lead 20-0 at halftime. The young Gladiators changed the team around and changed things in the course in the second half. The final score was 31-19 with Italy putting another notch in their belt. Their overall record is 3-0.
Thursday’s called meeting of the city council has been cancelled. Thursday, October 2, Italy’s city council will hold a called meeting concerning the Public Works director position. Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Stafford Elementary was full of beautiful artwork, fun, laughter, and students with their parents. Stafford Elementary hosted their first art show of the year.

Aaron, Adam and Angel are brothers and sister. They are beautiful kittens, three months old and full of energy with great personalities. They currently reside at the the Corsicana Animal Shelter.
The Lady Gladiators traveled to Covington on Saturday. The JV won their match against the Lady Owls but the Varsity was defeated in 4 sets.
Every year Stafford Elementary puts on a book fair to encourage students to read. This year’s book fair was a Jungle Book Safari theme. Everywhere you went you could hear wonderful music and everywhere you looked you saw children with their parents picking out lots of books. Not only does this encourage reading but it also provides family time.
Wednesday, September 24, Italy Lions Club members along with some members from the Dallas Lions Club were giving free eye exams and free glasses to children that needed them. They were set up at Stafford Elementary and were serving children from Milford, Italy and Avalon.
Josh Trees graduated from Italy High school at 17, went to Hill College and received his associates degree. At the ripe old age of 19 he purchased his grandfather’s business, Best Disposal, when his grandfather decided he did not want it anymore.

The Italy City Council named John Droll to the city council at a called meeting Saturday morning in council chambers. He will replace the seat recently vacated by Jimmy Hyles.
Italy’s 7th and 8th grade Gladiator teams defeated the Hawks from Red Oak and the Frost Polar Bears to add a win to each of their records.
All three teams from IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) performed this past Saturday against Blooming Grove Lions. These kids are Kindergarden to 6th grade, divided into three teams. They are our future Italy Gladiators and the on the field training proves to be a good thing.
FROST — The Italy Gladiators came away with their second win of the season Friday night with a 40-7 win over the Frost Polar Bears. Clay Major led the Gladiators with 79 yards on five carries and three of them for touchdowns.
Lowell Hamilton (L.H.) Baker, 82, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away on September 25, 2008. He was the only child born to the late James Edward and Maggie Lucille Baker of Italy, Texas.

The Italy High School Regiment Band is performing at halftime at the Varsity football games and everyone needs to see them. They are awesome!
The undefeated Milford Lady Bulldogs scored another win against the Waxahachie Advantage Academy Eagles on Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs’ success has been attributed to hard work and a family atmosphere.
If you have attended any Gladiator football game this year, you probably noticed a group of young men that stand out among the crowd. They are young; however, that does not stop acts of pride and loyalty to their school from shining through. The young men are none other than “ITALY PRIDE”, freshman from Italy High School with an idea they would like to convey.
The Italy Lady Gladiators hosted the Blum Lady Cats in the dome Tuesday night. In three sets the Lady Cats added another notch to their district belt.
The Milford Bulldogs ran their record to 4 and 0 on the year with a 46 to zero Homecoming victory Friday night.

As all the old timers will tell you, Italy has had her share of strange tales throughout the years. The folklore seems to surface around the time of harvest or Halloween every year.
