Life Charter found it difficult to contain Justin Buchanan Thursday night at Willis field. Buchanan racked up 76 yards rushing and 192 yards passing. With only 12 players, Italy had their work cut out for them and would have to play both ways with little or no relief. They handled the challenge and proved they would do whatever it takes to bring home the victory.
Italy hosted Hubbard on Thursday night and the game went down to the wire, but Italy lost in the final seconds 20-12.

Lions Club International is a worldwide organization that helps citizens of all ages with glasses and vision problems. Some vision problems may be corrected by a pair of glasses. Others may require a surgical procedure.
Saturday, October 11, the Lions Club of Italy held a bake sale to raise money for a scholarship fund for Italy ISD.
On behalf of the Italy Lions Club we want to say thank you to one and all who helped us to raise over $200 for our scholarship fund. We would also like to express gratitude for everything donated to the food drive for The Italy Ministerial Alliance.
The Italy City Council honored the Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) at a special meeting called Monday evening.
The Italy City Council terminated interim city secretary K.M. Hubert on Monday, Oct. 13.
Tonight the city council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. to recognize Italy’s Youth Athletic Association. At 6:30 p.m. the council will hold its regular meeting. Approval of recent bills and council meeting minutes start the business of the evening. The city secretary and court clerk positions and other personnel status will be discussed. A presentation by P.J. Libel, the consideration of adopting various fees, department reports and council comments finish the agenda. Meetings will be in the council chambers of the Italy Municipal building at 105 Main Street. All are welcome to attend.

Carla and Cloe are two of the cutest little kittens you have ever seen. They reside at the Corsicana Animal Shelter and are looking for a permanent home. They are about four months old. They both have great personalities and love to play. They are typical kittens, they like to climb, play, pounce and tumble.

This month the volunteer spotlight focuses on one of the Italy volunteers, Floyd Elfrink. He delivers meals every Friday and also fills in when the need arises.
ITALY – The Gladiators looked like a different team than the one that smothered Frost two weeks ago. This week’s team added a loss in their district column when the Axtell Longhorns came to Willis Field and took home the 18-13 win on Friday night. Italy was inactive last week which could have been a factor in the contest.
In a decisive vote, the residents of Italy’s Independent School District voted 259-62 in favor of the 13 cent tax increase. Homecoming in Italy is October 24 and not only is it a time for tradition, alumni, crowns and bragging rights, it is a time for fundraising — and is this a good one. Think Christmas gift.

My name is Mark Stiles and I have chosen to support the education of the children of the Italy Independent School District by voting “yes” on Saturday October 11, 2008 in the tax rollback election. I take issue with many things in Paul Perry’s remarks concerning school rollback elections that were printed in Wednesday’s paper [Waxahachie Daily Light — Mr. Perry’s letter was published earlier today in the Neotribune]. Unlike Mr. Perry, I choose to send my children to school in Italy. Perhaps if he chose to do the same, Mr. Perry would “clearly see a need” to vote ‘YES’ in this election. I find it disappointing that Mr. Perry is so uninformed of the facts of this election. Reasonably, had he attended either of the two public forums sponsored by the Italy ISD, he would be more knowledgeable of the actual facts; thus, understanding the benefits and need of a successful election to better the education of our children — present and future.
Yesterday morning as I left the Uptown Cafe in Italy, I noticed several signs nailed to posts along Highway 34 and adjoining streets. These signs encouraged the reader to vote “NO” on the school tax rollback.
Just in time for the coming recession, your school board wants more of your money. The state legislature has already sent more money to your local school district than ever before. In exchange for providing increased state funding, your local school district is supposed to give you a substantial property tax rate decrease. In an attempt at financial and political judo, many local school districts want to partially restore the old property tax rates, hence the term “rollback,” while keeping increased state funding.
The George Scott Memorial Scholarship Dinner will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. The dinner will be held in the high school cafeteria at 300 S. College Street prior to the Homecoming game against Wortham.

The Prime Timers luncheon was held Wednesday, November 8, at Central Baptist Church. You really don’t want to miss one of these luncheons — the food is fabulous. There was sausage, brisket, a variety of vegetables and desserts.

Last Thursday evening, October 2, the Titus Women’s Club of Milford had its monthly meeting. The club’s goal is to form a unity among the women of Milford to take pride in their community and make good, productive changes in order to be the best town they can be.

The Milford Lady Bulldogs came to Italy and stopped the Lady Gladiators Tuesday night in four sets of volleyball.
Back in August of 1984, a community-police partnership was formed entitled National Night Out. The event still exists and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. The purpose of this program is to increase awareness of police programs in communities, such as town watch, drug prevention and other anti-crime efforts. At first communities held lights-on vigils, but now, communities host festivals, block parties or other events to help bring neighbors together.
