The IISD Board will meet Tuesday, March 24 in the administration offices at 300 South College, Italy. The agenda includes recognition of the Employee of the Month, Kyle Holley, discussion of a three-year plan on lighting, roof and HVAC renovations and disposition of surplus property policy. Teacher contracts will be discussed during Executive Session.

The next regular meeting of the Italy Economic Development Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 23. Agenda items include swearing in of newly appointed member, Tom Little, report from Elmerine Bell regarding the 2009 Legislation in Austin, and dicuss the hiring of an EDC professional.

Mayors for Meals

Every March, Meals on Wheels has an annual national campaign designed to increase public awareness. One of the campaigns is Mayors for Meals. On a designated day in March, Mayors across the country deliver meals to seniors in their community.

Suspects chased on foot outside Italy

After an hour long search on foot, three male suspects were taken into custody outside Italy near Campbell Road. off Hwy 35E. Thanks to ongoing organizational efforts between different rescue departments around the county, Italy citizens can relax and enjoy the rest of a beautiful day.

IHS Gladiator Baseball Is A Hit!

Was it the luck of the Irish that came into play on St. Patrick’s Day? Not really. Luck had nothing to do with it. The Gladiators took the field by storm on Tuesday evening at the Sports Complex in Waxahachie for their first game with full concentration and honed skills. They played Waxahachie Faith Family and skunked the Eagles 11-0.

Just because it’s Spring Break, that doesn’t mean certain people are slacking. Some youth of Central Baptist Church and youth director, Chris Talleri, volunteered their time to help with food distribution at the local food pantry on Monday.

Living and sharing Christ’s love is the message that the members and staff of Central Baptist Church in Italy would like to share with those in the community. Pastor Todd Gray and the Central family would also like to extend a special invitation to the community to visit, worship and fellowship with them.

Space Station Construction Visible in Backyard Telescopes

Today, March 17, at 8:12 p.m. both the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle will be visible with back yard telescopes here in Italy, Texas. There will be an approximate three minute widow of visibility. The approach will be from the North West moving towards the North-North East.

Hobbs Feed & Grain Host Grand Opening

There was a full house on hand at Hobbs Feed & Grain on Saturday due to the grand opening. The newest owners were happy to meet the citizens of Italy during the festivities. Many from the community came to participate in the event. So many, there was hardly any parking available.

Obituary: Alton Day, 1937 – 2009

Alton Day, age 72, of Italy passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his home. He was born January 21, 1937 in Brashear, Texas to O.B. and Modine (Clayton) Day. Alton married Jo Newell on June 1, 1957 in Grand Prairie. Alton was also a member of the Church of Christ in Italy.

IYAA hoops out the lights on 2009

The IYAA finished it’s 2009 basketball season Tuesday night at the Old Italy Gym. 6th and 5th grade girls and boys competed one last time before the 6th graders move on to Junior High. We wish them all the best of luck next year and trust they’ll carry fond memories of their careers in the IYAA.

Grand Opening for Hobbs Feed & Supply

James & Joyce Hobbs expects a big turnout on Saturday, March 14. The owners will have their official grand opening 10am to 5pm and wants everyone to attend. KBEC will broadcast live from 11am to 1pm with door prizes throughout the airing and the official ribbon cutting with Mayor Jackson will begin at noon. There wil be a special tribute to all Veterans.

Many Activities In Texas For Spring Break

Are you thinking about Spring Break? Italy High School is out March 16-22 and the students will be out early on Friday. What activities have you come up with to entertain your family during the next week? Neotrib has come up with a few suggestions to get those creative juices flowing.

Yearling Horse Clinic

Due to inclement weather and a soggy arena, the Yearling Clinic at the Flying Dollar Ranch, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14, has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

How many pancakes can you eat? Come on and find out on this Saturday morning, March 14th at 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM at the Wayne Boze building downtown Italy. This is where the Lions Club will be holding their pancake breakfast. There will be door prizes, contests and games for the children. It all adds up to a lot of fun.

Changes to the IHS Baseball Schedule

Matt Coker, head coach of Italy Varsity Baseball, said, “We have postponed the games scheduled for Friday due to the rain. They will not play on Saturday either.” He wants the community to know that as of right now, the Gladiators will play Monday March 16 against Waxahachie Advantage beginning at 5:00pm and Tuesday March 17 against Waxahachie Faith Family at 4:00 pm. Both games will be played at the complex in Waxahachie off Broadhead Road.

Blood Drive Taking Donations Until 5:00

Obituary: Marie Joan Threet, 1916 – 2009

Marie Joan Threet, who has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, March 12, 2009. She was born to Chalmers Jerome Varner and Cynthia Drucilla Trigg Varner on February 4, 1916 at Lone Cedar. She married Ernest Price Threet (Jack) on December 20, 1941.

Italy Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry Special Hours

The IMA Food Pantry will operate with one-time special hours on Monday, March 16, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again later that Monday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The IMA offers these one-time special hours of operation to accommodate those who could not come earlier this month.

Avalon makes History!

On March 6, 2009, the Avalon Eagles made history. It was the first time in 10 years, since Kris Marsall has been head coach, that the Eagles made it this far in playoffs. Though they didn’t win, Avalon played in the Region III Division Tournament at Stephen F. Austin University.

Italy and Milford candidates seeking city council and school board election have thrown their hats into the proverbial ring. Some will reach their positions unopposed, while others will have to campaign and win their seats May 9th, 2009.

Obituary: Frances Jane Grayson, 1925 – 2009

Frances Jane Grayson, 83, of Hillsboro died Thursday, March 5 at her residence. She was born June 28, 1925 in Italy, daughter of Burley E. and Nellie Griffis Wiles, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1942.
